For more than 80 years, Gerlinger Straddle Carriers have been the industry leader in straddle carrier design and manufacture, providing fast and efficient handling of long, heavy loads. Founded in 1918, the Gerlinger Carrier Co. was created by a German-born immigrant- Mr. Carl Gerlinger Sr.- to manufacture both straddle carriers and forklifts. The company was based in Dallas, Oregon and eventually merged with Towmotor and Caterpillar Tractor in the 1950's.The carrier line became more of a specialty product, and was acquired by businesses owned by Gerlinger family members in the 1970's.

The machines are currently manufactured by GCC Inc. of Salem, Oregon- a company that is owned by descendants of Carl Gerlinger.Over the years the markets for Gerlinger Carriers have changed, with most applications now centered in steel/metal handling, oil refineries, building materials, military, and special handling requirements. Recent customers include USX, Exxon, Carpenter Technology, Asarco, Chevron, BP Arco, US Navy, Hughes Bro's, and Varco Pruden.
